Ranging from rhombic to scalenahedral, these off-white calcite crystals from the Abbeytown Quarry from a very aesthetic cluster on a limestone matrix. The largest crystal measures 35mm in length
The dark gray areas preferentially formed on one side of each crystal are caused by microscopic hydro-carbon inclusions
This piece was collected in July 2001 in a pipe not related to the better-known base-matel mineralisation
Two of the crystals each have one small bruise but this does not detract from the overall quality of the specimen
