| | | Although not the most aesthetic baryte specimen available, this amazing piece is representative of the material from the Threkeld Side Mine in Cumbria. It consists of a thick (30mm wide!) tabular crystal with pyrite inclusions. The pyrite is mostly perched on an earlier generation of growth. The main crystal faces are well-formed and undamaged. A smaller second crystal of the same penetrates one side of the main crystal. It was found as recently as June 2003 | |
