Greenside Minerals Limited is a family owned company formed in 2003 to offer quality mineral specimens to
the public at reasonable prices. All our specimens are individually selected to represent a broad
cross-section of available species

 |
Although we do not specialise, it is difficult for us not to have favourites. On this site you will see a
bias towards specimens from the United Kingdom and Ireland, including many from Cornwall and the orefields
of the northern Pennines. We hope to always offer a range of newly collected specimens and those from
collections created in the past

Greenside Minerals do not sell exclusively on the web. We regularly exhibit at mineral shows in the UK,
including Bakewell, Sussex and the Oxford shows. See further down the page for some photos of us in
action

As well as our love for the mineral kingdom we also create computer software. This web site, including the
shopping cart, was created, and is maintained, by our own programmers. We also enjoy photographing the
minerals we sell - a difficult but very rewarding task. We hope you enjoy the end results

What's in a name?
We've chosen the name of a famous English mine for our trading name. The Greenside Mine, located near the village of
Glenridding in the English Lake District, was an important producer of lead ore (galena) from circa 1799 until its
final closure in 1962. Total production was around 150,000 tons and, being highly argentiferous, it also yielded
about 1.6 million ounces of silver
The history of the mine is wonderfully documented by Samuel Murphy in his
book: Grey Gold. The book also gives a detailed account of the social conditions that prevailed in this, then
remote, corner of Victorian England
